The Dreadful Past Casey Anthony
Caylee Marie Anthony was born in Orlando, Florida on August 9, 2005. She lived there with her mother Casey Marie Anthony and her maternal grandparents George and Cindy Anthony. Cindy called 911 on July 15, 2008 to report Caylee as missing. She said she had not seen her granddaughter in 31 days, and Casey’s vehicle smelled of a dead body. Casey gave several different explanations as to where Caylee was before finally saying she hadn’t seen Caylee for weeks. Casey called the police later and falsely reported that Caylee was kidnapped.
Caylee Anthony’s remains, along with a blanket, were found in a laundry bag on December 11, 2008. The location of the duct tape near the skull was different in the reports and the trial testimony. Caylee died of homicide, but the cause was not determined by the medical examiner. Casey was accused of first-degree murder by the police in October 2008. She pleaded guilty. The prosecution wanted the death penalty. They claimed that Casey was trying to escape parental responsibility and murdered Caylee using chloroform, duct tape and other chemicals.
Jose Baez led the defense in challenging the credibility of the prosecution evidence. He presented the theory that Caylee accidentally drowned while swimming in the pool of the family and that Casey’s father George had disposed the body. Casey was acquitted of murder, and other serious charges on July 5, 2011. However, she was found guilty of misdemeanor counts for giving false information to police. After receiving credit for her time served, Casey was released from prison on July 17, 2011. In January 2013, two of her misdemeanor charges were overturned.
The case attracted a lot of public attention, and it was often called “the social media trials of the century.” Nancy Grace, an influential media personality, strongly argued for Casey’s guilt. The public was outraged by the not-guilty decision. Many expressed their disapproval via social media.
Where has Casey Anthony gone?
Casey Anthony, in December 2020, filed the paperwork for her own private detective business in South Florida. In 2021, a source clarified that Anthony’s intention was not reopening the investigation into Caylee’s death. Sources stated that Casey considered that chapter in her life closed, and that the purpose of Case Research & Consulting Services, LLC, was to assist individuals wrongly accused.
Casey is a felony convict and cannot get a license as a private investigator. However, she wants to help other people in similar situations. Casey announced in 2019 that she would be creating a film titled “As I Was Told”, referring to the instructions an unidentified person who claimed to have discovered Caylee’s body allegedly gave her. The film was meant to prove Casey’s guilt in Caylee’s death. However, it was abandoned and there was no date set for its release.
In March 2020, it was reported that Casey had been working on a book detailing her life as well as Caylee’s disappearance and eventual death. A sensitive subject, the book was expected be controversial. There has been no update on the publication date and it is still unclear if this project will be realized. Casey Anthony, although acquitted in the murder of her daughter, was convicted of four counts of giving false information to authorities and sentenced to a four-year prison term.
